Thomas
Morris
January 17, 1936 – June 11, 2026
Thomas F. Morris, 90, of Huntsville, Alabama, passed away peacefully on June 11th surrounded by loved ones.
He was born on January 17, 1936 in Pound, Virginia to Orbrie M. Morris and Allie Reid Litchfield Morris. He attended Virginia Tech on an ROTC scholarship and played basketball there. He graduated with an Electrical Engineering degree. After graduating from Virginia Tech, he went on to serve four years in the Army as a first lieutenant. Also, he married his high school sweetheart, Carol Baker. They were married December 20, 1958. They spent fifty wonderful years building a home and raising a family in Huntsville, Alabama.
Tom was known for his sense of humor, serving the community, as an active member of his church, and a dedicated employee for NASA. He volunteered for Fantasy Playhouse Children's Theater as set director for decades. At NASA he was part of a group that designed and built a machine capable of measuring multiple metallic specimens at a time which sped up the process and timeline for Skylab to be built, as well as, patented the machine.
Later on in life, he went to Drake State College and earned a Master Electrician License and had his HVAC license. He would not charge elderly people for his work and left his family, one Christmas, to take care of the heat for another family in need. His generosity continued as he volunteered at Second Mile, helping them with light installations and their HVAC system.
Going on mission trips was a calling and he helped people throughout the nation and abroad. There are many other charities to which he contributed. Also, he was an avid golfer, played basketball and softball for his work and church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Carol B. Morris, as well as his parents and his siblings.
After his wife's passing, he found love again with Joyce Looger. They spent time walking, hiking, having meals together, and of course watching British shows. Furthermore, he leaves behind to cherish his memory his children: Allison M. Baker, husband David Baker, Thomas Maximillian Morris, wife Waynette Morris, and Charlotte Reid Morris.
The children remember fondly of weekends filled with yard work, camping, and the beach!
A celebration of Tom's life will be held on June 20th at noon for visitation, followed by a service at Holmes Street United Methodist Church at 1:00.In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Fantasy Children's Playhouse Theater and Second Mile.
