Obituary

Billy (William IV) Shostrom of Huntsville passed away at his home on February 6, 2026, at the age of 53. His family is deeply saddened by his untimely death.

Billy is survived and greatly missed by his mother, Susan Ford Echols, his brother, Alan Shostrom, and his stepfather, Frank Echols, all of Huntsville, and his father William (Bill) Shostrom III of Dothan, AL.

Billy was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents. He was especially close to his late uncle Robert Hunter "Bob" Ford of Huntsville and Arab, AL.

Billy was born in Huntsville, Alabama, where he grew up with his family including his stepbrother, Jeffrey Echols. The family enjoyed lots of happy times together including many fun filled camping trips to places nearby as well as longer trips to Helen, GA, Disney World and Colorado. Boating and water sports on Guntersville Lake were also fun activities for the family.

Billy was a graduate of Grissom High School in Huntsville. Billy loved sports both as a participant and a fan. He played soccer throughout childhood and was on the Grissom swim team as well as serving as a lifeguard at the Aquatic Center. He was an avid Alabama as well as Miami Dolphins football fan.

Billy moved to Colorado soon after high school where he became an expert skier and snowboarder. Billy's career was as a skilled server working at high end restaurants beginning at the ski resorts in Colorado. He returned home to Huntsville and continued his career at such popular places as Pauli’s, The Bottle and ‘Ole’ Heidelberg, his most recent tenure being at The Salt Factory in Mid City. Billy enjoyed his customers and was friendly with everyone, often leaving them pleased enough with his service and charismatic personality to request him as their server on their return.

Billy will be remembered by his family and many friends as a fun loving, charming, quick witted, kind and loving person. He was an avid lover of animals of all species, and was always accompanied by his current canine companion, the last of which was a rescue he named after his Uncle Bob. Dog Bob now happily lives with brother Alan and his 2 kitties.

Gone way too soon from this earth, Billy’s free spirit lives on in our hearts with much love and adoration.
