William Douglas (Doug) Gillis died July 3, 2026. 

He was preceded in death by his father, Billy D. Gillis, and is survived by his daughter, Sasha Gillis; his mother, Gene Parkhill Gillis Blythe; sisters, Jan Gillis Morrow and Gwen Gillis Clingan; his friends of 45 years, Doug and Jeannie Teel; and many nieces and nephews. 

Doug was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War, where he served as a Crew Chief on an assault helicopter. He was awarded an Air Medal and a Bronze Star for his service. He also received a DAV "Community of Heroes" certificate. The Gillis family appreciates all the assistance Doug received from the VA, his medical team at CCI in Huntsville, and enhabit Hospice Huntsville.
