(Mattie) Yvonne Akers Morton passed away at her home in Huntsville, Alabama on Monday, August 18, 2025 at the age of 79.
She was born on April 30, 1946 in Birmingham, Alabama to Uless Noah Akers and Madeline Floy Cobb.
She was married to her loving husband, Hugh Forrest Morton, on July 6, 1968 for 32 years until his passing on October 4, 2000 at the age of 57.
She worked primarily in the administrative field. She excelled in her duties due to her passion for learning through curiosity and attention to detail.
She had a love of music and you could always hear her singing her favorite songs with her beautiful voice.
She always carried a smile on her face and was willing to help others often.
She took pride and great care in being a wonderful, thoughtful and diligent caregiver to her husband and mother when they became ill.
She was a kind, loving and generous daughter, sister, wife, aunt, and mother. She cherished her entire family.
She was a member of the Jehovah's Witnesses.
She was preceded in death by her father: Uless Noah Akers, mother: Madeline Floy Cobb Akers, husband: Hugh Forrest Morton, niece: Christy Lynn Akers, aunt: Marguerite Cobb Akers, great nieces: Sydney Bryan, Kynlee Bryan
She is survived by her son: Christopher Forrest Morton, daughter: Stephanie Marie Newton (Rusty), sister: Elaine Akers Hatley (Allen), brother: Marvin Ray Akers (Debbie), cousin: Suzanne Akers Morris Vandall and many more relatives too numerous to mention.
Nieces and nephews: Sandy Lackey (Lawayne), Heather Bryan (Jammie), Bryan Hatley, Kari Davenport (Cody), Melissa Gladney (Daniel), Holly Renolds Stewart (Brandon), Brian Reynolds (Christy)
Great nieces and nephews: Kinsley and Addi Davenport, Colbey Bryan, Caitlin Jennings (Ethan), Dalton Lackey (Nichole), Melia and Bella Gladney, Grey and Jacob Reynolds
A private memorial will be held on September 6, 2025 at a family members' home.
