Betty Howard Roberts left us early Tuesday morning, July 27, 2021. Betty was born on July 14, 1935 to parents Melvin Howard and Josie Lanford in New Market AL. Betty lived 86 years, enjoying a full life. Berry has three children; Debbie McGee, Murray McElyea, and Tim McElyea; nine grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren. Betty was part of a large family with four brothers; Lowell, Gene, Kenneth Wayne, and Dale Howard; and one sister; Joyce Britton.

Her childhood sweetheart and husband; Gene McElyea left her in 1991 after lung cancer took him. She built her family and career with Gene. Betty married Tom Roberts in 1995, losing him to cancer in 2013. While married to Tom, Betty retired and traveled the world.

Betty was the consummate mother and professional. She loved gardening, cooking, and sewing. Known to her family as Maw Maw, it is safe to say that no one left her house without being offered something to eat. She would hand sew and tailor her business suits herself, and can the vegetables from her garden. She made jellies and preserves from scratch; the "store bought" jelly didn't stand a chance. She worked at Thiokol, Boeing, and SAIC, retiring from SAIC after 30 years as a Facility Security Officer, as a top authority in national security protocols. She was well respected by her peers in the industrial security field. She had a work ethic and commitment that drove her tirelessly for her employer and family. We will miss Maw Maw; she will live forever in our memory.

Visitation will be Friday July 30, 2021 from 9:30 - 11:00 A.M. at Berryhill Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held in the Chapel at 11:00 A.M. with burial in Concord Cemetery in New Market. A full obituary will follow.
