Hubbard, Jr.
December 6, 1947 – January 2, 2020
Master Sergeant Henry C. Hubbard Jr., age 72 of Lacey's Spring, AL, passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home on January 2, 2020.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years Cheri L. Hubbard; son Henry C. Hubbard; daughter Teresa Hubbard; grandson Jonathan Morrell and wife Courtney; brothers Ronald Miller and Robert Miller; sister Patty Shanks, and a host of other family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents Henry and Joann Hubbard, and two brothers Andy and Terry Hubbard.
Hank or Bud, to family and friends, was born on December 6, 1947, in Mt. Vernon, IL, to Henry and Joann Hubbard. He married Cheri Holmes, his lifelong love and partner in 1967 and was a devoted and loving father and grandfather to his son and daughter, Hank and Teresa and grandson, Jon.
Hank proudly served his country, enlisting in the US Army in 1969 as an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Specialist. As a career EOD soldier and veteran of the Vietnam War he was awarded the Silver Star for gallantry in action and rose to the rank of First Sergeant before retiring with full military honors in 1989. Not content to rest on his laurels, Hank went on to serve a second, distinguished career as a Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) Site Safety Specialist with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers until his final retirement.
His hobbies included wood working. He made furniture for his family and crafted wood projects that was donated to the EOD community.
The family will receive friends at a Memorial Service from 3:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m., Sunday, January 5, 2020, at Berryhill Funeral Home, 2305 N. Memorial Parkway, Huntsville, AL. A graveside burial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 8, 2020, at the Zion United Church of Christ, Arthur, IL.
In lieu of flowers, donations are requested in memory of MSG Henry C. Hubbard to the EOD Warrior Foundation at www.eodwarriorfoundation.org.
