Herbert Cary Wilburn, 81, of Huntsville, Alabama, passed away on October 15, 2023. He was born on May 8, 1942, in Huntsville, Alabama. Cary, a lifelong resident of Huntsville, was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather.

Cary is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Karen Sue deFevre Wilburn, his daughter Cherie Lee Wilburn, his son Cary Dwayne Wilburn (Sandi), five grandchildren, two great grandchildren, a brother James Larry Wilburn (Anna Belle) and sister Gilda Wilburn Davis. He was preceded in death by his father James Thomas Wilburn, his mother Bessie K Wilburn, his brother Jimmy Wayne Wilburn, and his son Joseph Allen Wilburn.

After attending Butler High School, he proudly served in the US Army from 1960 to 1963. He became a Huntsville police officer in 1963 and graduated from the University of Alabama in Huntsville in 1976 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Law Enforcement. Cary retired from Huntsville Police Department as a Major in 1996.In his free time, Cary enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing, and traveling. He had a passion for life and made lasting memories with his loved ones.

A ceremony to honor and remember Cary Wilburn will be held at Berryhill Funeral Home, located in Huntsville, Alabama, on Thursday, October 19th. Visitation will begin at 9:30am, followed by a service at 11:00am. Interment will take place afterwards at Huntsville Memory Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Huntsville Police Department Memorial Fund in memory of Herbert Cary Wilburn.
