James Darwin Mcculley's Obituary

James Darwin McCulley, 63 of Huntsville, passed away on May 16, 2023.

He was born and raised in Huntsville. James was formely employed with the Madison County Sheriff's Department and a member of the Honor Guard. He was also employed by Madison City Public Works.

Jim was a devoted husband to Shelly and absolutely adored her. He loved all of his children and would brag on each one of them, every chance he could. He cherished each of his grandchildren and supported all their adventures, whether good or bad, he loved them boldly. His hugs were the absolute best, you felt loved and safe.
Jim loved to sit on his front porch and within minutes there was always a crowd. Whether drinking coffee or a cold one, you could hear the laughs while driving by or up the street. He loved family get-togethers, watching his children accomplish their goals, and watching his grandchildren grow, these are things that filled him with joy.
To know him was to wholeheartedly love him. To see the love he had for his wife, Shelly, was abundant. To see them together, you appreciated and cherished their love, envious of the way they looked at and adored each other.
He lived 1,000 years in the 63 calendar years we had with him because he attacked life, he grabbed it by the collar, kissed it, and swung it back onto the dance floor, well his dance floor. He was a rare combination of someone who had a love of life and a firm understanding of what was important- the simplicity of living a life with those you love.
Though our hearts are broken we were all blessed with his love.

James is survived by his wife, Shelly McCulley; children, Mike McCulley (Megan), Jeff Jackson (Wendi), Jessica Jackson-Nall (James), Danielle Watson (Steve), Amber Dunnam; grandchildren, Oliva, Sophia, Kasch, Jacob, Devin, Kayden, Kaytlyn, Corey, Colby, Cailey, Brandon, Allyssa, and Emma.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bobby Gene and Marilyn McCulley; and brothers, Terry Michael and Tommy McCulley.

Visitation will be Sunday, May 21, 2023 at Berryhill Funeral Home from 12:00 to 2:00 PM. Services will follow at 2:30 PM . Burial will be at Maple Hill Cemetery.
