James "Jim" Quinn's Obituary

James "Jim" Quinn lived fully for over 93 years, passing away on October 16th 2021. He loved God, his family and many other close friends.

Over 64 years ago, he interviewed his future wife, June, in connection with a write up in their church youth group's newsletter. They fell in love and were married for over 64 years. Jim and June began their life together in Colorado, but they moved to Kansas where their three children Shannon, Erin and Darren were born.

Jim's greatest legacy was his family. Jim leaves behind his wife and three children that all have a strong faith in God. Jim's greatest joy was his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Jim was always a hard worker. As a young boy, he worked hard on a Kansas farm for $1 a month. He worked at numerous jobs until he joined the Army-Air Force after high school, so he could be the first in his family to go to college.

He was one of the few who qualified to take the test for entrance to West Point, but his tattoo may have kept him out. He obtained an engineering degree from Kansas State instead. He worked most of his career as an engineer for the Army Corps of Engineers, retiring at 78 with over 52 years of service to the Department of the Army.

Jim and June were longtime supporters of Whitesburg Baptist Church, joining the congregation almost as soon as they moved to Huntsville, AL in 1979. Jim volunteered there in the Bus Ministry, and they both helped out in the nursery. Together, Jim and June also sponsored two Korean orphans for decades from preschool through adulthood.

No services are planned at this time. Berryhill Funeral Home is assisting the family.
