JoAnna G. Burkett, 82 of Huntsville, passed away at home peacefully surrounded by her family on Sunday, July 2, 2023.

JoAnna was born January 23, 1941, in Huntsville, AL. She was a member of Whitesburg Baptist Church. Graduating from Huntsville High School, Class of 1959, she remained closely connected to her classmates through the years. JoAnna was a gifted quilter and seamstress. She was a member of the American Quilters Society. She was a founding member of the Whitesburg Baptist Church Sewing Ministry that was formed to share the gospel through teaching others to quilt. She devoted her life to her husband and raising her children as a homemaker.  In addition, she was an avid deer and turkey hunter.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years, William L. (Buddy) Burkett; son, William Earl Burkett (Jennifer); daughter, Martha B. Waldrup (Jerry); grandchildren, William Burkett (Allie), Jeri Ann Hadley (Jacob) and Alicia Bennett (Zach); and one great-granddaughter, Dixie Bennett.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Jesse Sam and Miriam Gowan; and brothers, Paul Gowan and Perry Gowan.

A visitation will be held on Friday, July 7, 2023, from 12:00PM-2:00PM at Berryhill Funeral Home. The service will follow at 2:00PM, with a graveside service immediately following at Maple Hill Cemetery.
