IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Judy Brooks
Buchanan
October 25, 1948 – November 5, 2024
Judy Brooks Buchanan, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully at home on November 5, 2024. She was born on October 25, 1948, to Rev. Harry L. Brooks Sr. and Clara McCay Brooks.
Judy is survived by her husband, Maurice La-Von Barnett; her daughter, Cheryle Buchanan Bass (John); grandchildren, Cayla Fletcher (Joey), Zachary Ivey, Chelsy Ivey, and Kaylee Reed; and her great-grandson, Eli Richard Fletcher. She also leaves behind her family-adopted daughter, Frances Reed (Chris); brother, Kenny Brooks (Toni); and sisters, Linda Brooks and Stella Dowdy (Larry), along with many dear friends and relatives.
She was preceded in death by her late husband, James "Jim" Buchanan; her children, Carla and Scott Buchanan; her parents, Rev. Harry L. Brooks Sr. and Clara Brooks; and her brothers, Harry L. Brooks Jr. and Roy Brooks.
Judy grew up in a modest Christian home as the third of six siblings. She inherited her mother's nurturing spirit and her father's faith, dedicating herself to her family and community from an early age. Judy's beautiful soprano voice and self-taught piano skills graced Central Baptist Church, where she shared her passion for music.
A lover of travel, she explored much of the United States and beyond, with a special fondness for cruises. Judy was known for her warm gatherings, whether celebrating special occasions, cheering for Alabama football, or relaxing by the pool. Her loving spirit, generosity, and commitment to faith, family, and friendship will be deeply missed.
