Larry Horace Barnett's Obituary

Larry Horace Barnett, age 77, passed peacefully at home early Thursday morning, February 27, 2025.  He was born the only child of Robert Horace Barnett and Hazel Louise Painter Barnett in Huntsville, Alabama on August 9, 1947.  (Madison County's population at that time was less than 16,000 people)

A graduate of Madison Academy, he attended Free Hardeman University and then Tennessee Technological University.  A proud veteran, he served in the Army Reserve during the Vietnam era.

Marrying Janice (Tittsworth) Barnett in 1968, he wanted to remain in Huntsville and build his own retail establishment.  Larry's Pistol and Pawn was created in 1974 just after the birth of their only child, Robert Noel.  No stranger to hard work, as he had worked numerous jobs since he was 9 years old, he loved the business of pawnbroking and retail sales.

Larry initially envisioned his business as a combination trophy, pawn, and gun shop, but his distinctive marketing approach led firearm sales to become the primary focus. In 1990, he expanded his North Parkway location, adding a larger showroom and an indoor firing range. In 2015, he further grew the business with a second location along Interstate 565 near the iconic "Big Rusty Water Tower." This location became home to his cherished collection of unique firearms, proudly displayed in his personal "museum."

Larry is survived by his wife of 56 years, Janice Tittsworth Barnett, and one son Robert Noel Barnett, one grandson Nicholas Tyler Barnett (wife Taylor), one great granddaughter, Sadie Jane and one great grandson expected in late summer.

Visitation for Larry will be from 12 noon to 2PM Thursday, March 6, 2025, followed by a memorial service at 2PM at Mayfair Church of Christ in Huntsville.  A semi-private graveside service will be held at Maple Hill Cemetery Friday, March 7, 2025
