Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ret. LTC Lawrence (Larry) Francis Perreault, Sr. after a short illness.

Born and raised in Chicago, Illinois to Francis and Eleanore Perreault, he would go on to become a graduate of West Point Military Academy in 1958, followed by a 20-year career in the U.S. Army and then a career in real estate as a local Huntsville business owner after his retirement from the military in 1978.

He was an outstanding father, grandfather, son, brother, friend, and citizen who lived an exemplary life of service to others. He was an eternal optimist, who encouraged and expected his children to do their best, while forgiving our missteps with humorous stories of his own failings. We will be forever grateful for the positive outlook on life he gave to us, along with his love, patience, and guidance. Foremost, he was a patriot who loved his country and who was proud to be an American. He was a lifelong Chicago Bears and Chicago Cubs fan and any team his children or grandchildren played on. In all, his was a life well lived, where his good qualities far exceeded his flaws. We think he would have liked that assessment. We are going to miss him.

He graduated from West Point Military Academy with a Bachelor of Science degree, where he was particularly proud of having been a member of the West Point boxing team as a middleweight. He received a Master of Business Degree from Central Missouri State University and a Master of Science Degree in Systems Management from the University of Southern California. His time in the Army included 2 tours of duty in Vietnam from 1964-1965 and 1968-1970, along with assignments in Germany and numerous other stations throughout the Continental United States. When stationed in Pirmasens, Germany from 1973-1977 he was responsible for the logistics of all nuclear weapons for U.S. Forces in the European Theater as part of the 59thth Ordinance Group. He was attached to the Office of Program Manager for the Pershing Missile on Redstone Arsenal for his last military assignment in 1977-1978.

His business career in real estate started with the ownership of a single Century 21 franchise in 1980 which he then merged and grew into at one point the largest residential real estate company in the Huntsville area and the 3rd largest in the state of Alabama. He was President of the Huntsville Area Association of REALTORS in 1989 and was a former Huntsville REALTOR of the Year and a Director of the National Association of REALTORS along with serving on its Professional Standards Committee. He considered honesty and integrity to be the core principles for business and life. He ran a real estate school for most of his business career where it was his passion to pass on these values and knowledge of the industry to new generations of real estate agents.

He was predeceased by his loving wife of 30 years, Jennifer Perreault, father Francis Perreault, mother Eleanore Unger, and stepfather Robert Unger.

He is survived by his 5 children; Lawrence Perreault, Jr., Steven Perreault, David Perreault, Matthew (Julie Hwang) Midboe and Dr. Amanda Midboe, 10 grandchildren; Jon Perreault, Elaine Perreault, Jason Perreault, Carson (Canaan) Perreault, Sydney (Keaton) Anderson, Christopher Perreault, William Perreault, Maxwell Perreault, Emily Freeland and Sadie Midboe, and 1 great-grandchild; Calla Perreault, along with 3 siblings;
Sharon (Wayne) Winkelman, Richard (Beverly) Perreault, and Lauren Perreault (Garth Sheriff) and many nieces and nephews.

"Duty, Honor, Country: Those three hallowed words reverently dictate what you ought to be, what you can be, what you will be. They are your rallying points: to build courage when courage seems to fail; to regain faith when there seems to be little cause for faith; to create hope when hope becomes forlorn." - General Douglas MacArthur

Funeral service for Mr. Perreault, Sr. have been cancelled at this time and will be rescheduled for a later date.
