Margaret Dilworth
Stout
January 25, 1934 – December 23, 2023
Margaret Dilworth Stout, of Huntsville, AL, passed away on December 23, 2023, at the age of 89.
She was born on January 25, 1934 in Anniston, AL to John H. and Arva Lee (Bolt) Dilworth, as the oldest of six children.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill D. Stout (MD), to whom she was married for 57 years.
She will be missed by her children, Michael (Malena), Rodgers (Sharlene), and Catherine (John); grandchildren, Nathan (Nina), Wesley (Leslie), Jack, Tara, Cecilia, Sarah, and Rachael; as well as her two sisters, Dora Jane Dilworth and Sarah Wahne Trelawney.
During Margaret's childhood, her family lived in several places in Alabama, Tennessee, and Mississippi. After completing high school in Biggersville, MS, she attended Blue Mountain College and received a B.A. degree in 1956. After graduating, she worked as a librarian at the University of Tennessee, Memphis where she met her future husband. They were married in August of 1957. After Bill enlisted in the U.S. Navy, they moved to the west coast where their children were born in California and Washington state.
When Bill retired from the Navy, the family moved to Anniston, AL. Margaret kept busy as a devoted mother, becoming involved in the Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts, working as a librarian at the Anniston Library, earning her pilot's license, as well as being actively engaged in local, state, and national politics, including running for state senate.
During her life together with Bill, they traveled extensively, including living in Dhahran and Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, as well as Rochester, NY. Eventually, they retired to Fairfield Glade, TN, in 1996. They built a home on Lake Dartmoor that became the place for their growing family to gather. She still enjoyed traveling, especially when she could visit her seven grandchildren, whom she loved spoiling. She also enjoyed art, gardening, her Golden Retrievers (who she treated like four legged grandchildren), but most of all, her family. She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church of Fairfield. Shortly after Bill's passing in 2014, she moved to Huntsville, AL to be near her family.
Berryhill Funeral Home assisted the family.
