Obituary

Paul Brooks Durham, 84, of Huntsville, Alabama died January 15, 2024. He was born August 12, 1939 to the late James E. and Eva Reed Durham. Brooks grew up in Madison County and graduated from Sparkman High School. He joined the Air Force in 1959. He served in El Paso, Texas and was in Guam during the Cuban Missile Crisis.

After the Air Force he worked at Huntsville Utilities, Congress Inn and Town House Motel. He became manager of the Howard Johnson's in Montgomery in 1968. He attended Pace Management School in New York and worked for Pace Management for several years. He had
over 30 years in managing motels mostly in the Southeast United States.

Brooks was a dedicated servant of the Lord in several churches as the family moved due to his profession, serving as a deacon at First Baptist Church, Lake City, Florida. Upon death, he was a member of Willowbrook Baptist Church, where he served assisted living and nursing
home residents.

Brooks had a deep love for his Lord, his family, his friends, his church and Alabama football.

He is survived by his wife of almost 58 years, Jean Thigpen Durham of Huntsville; daughter, Paula Hayes (Harry) of Greenville, SC; son Brian Durham (Kelly) of Spring Hill, TN; five grandchildren: Amelia, Ava and Brayden Durham of Spring Hill, TN and Madison and Serenity Hayes of Greenville, SC, brother, James E Durham, Jr of Harvest, AL, special brothers and sisters in law, nieces, nephews, and other family and friends.

A graveside service will be held on Sunday, January 28th at Huntsville Memory Gardens beginning at 11:00AM.
