Ralph Wayne Hornsby, Sr., a retired attorney with the firm of Hornsby, Watson, Hornsby & Heyward passed away peacefully on May 2, 2023 at Huntsville Hospital Hospice Family Care. He was born on March 2, 1939 in Wetumpka, Alabama. He is survived by his sons, Ralph W. Hornsby, Jr. (Betty), and John D. Hornsby (Anna); three grandchildren, Sarah Coleman Hornsby, Caroline Bishop Hornsby, and Ralph W. Hornsby III; and brother, Roy Lester Hornsby. He was preceded in death by his parents, Homer Lester Hornsby, and Helen Williams Hornsby; brother, Homer Ray Hornsby and sister, Elizabeth Hornsby Gouge.

Upon graduation from Wetumpka High School he attended and graduated from Howard College (now Samford University) on a track scholarship. Upon graduation he attended Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary for one year before making the decision to attend law school. He graduated from Cumberland School of Law and received his Juris Doctorate in 1965. He then moved to Huntsville where he practiced law until his retirement. He enjoyed a successful career as a trial lawyer, and his passion was helping workers who had been injured on the job. He was President of the Alabama Trial Lawyers Association from 1983-84. He enjoyed fishing, tennis, running, and Alabama football.

A funeral service will be held at The Episcopal Church of the Nativity, 208 Eustis Ave., Huntsville, AL on Wednesday, May 10, 2023, at 11:00 AM, followed by a reception at the church.

The family suggests in lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to The Episcopal Church of the Nativity.
