Ronald Lee Lancaster's Obituary

Ronald "Ron" Lee Lancaster, 85, of Huntsville, AL, went to be with his Heavenly Father on May 15, 2022. He was born in Bippus, IN on April 20, 1937. He graduated from Bippus High School in 1955 and went on to further his education at Indiana Tech where he graduated with an engineering degree in 1960. He married the love of his life Esther M. Wohlford on September 1, 1957. Their children were born between 1958-1965...Elizabeth Ann, Kendall Alan, Jeffery Wayne and Leslie Diane.

After graduating from Indiana Tech, they moved to Cocoa Beach, FL so that he could pursue his passion for space. His job there included work on the Mercury Atlas and the Gemini missions that first sent man into Earth's orbit. These were very exciting years for him, his family and the world. In 1960, he moved his family to Huntsville to work on the Saturn V and testing of the Lunar Rover that landed on the moon. Later with Wyle Laboratories, he was involved in the testing and redesign of the O-ring after the Challenger disaster in 1986. He worked for Wyle Laboratories in marketing until his retirement in 1999.

From there he enjoyed his passion for carpentry, reading, camping, and ensuring his home was in excellent condition.

For many years he belonged to Highlands Baptist Church. During that time he taught Sunday school, was a Sunday School Superintendent, served as a deacon and organized numerous mission trips to build churches all over the United States. Later he traveled with a group from Trussville, AL to do the same. For the last six years, he has belonged to The Refuge Church where he went on multiple mission trips to Haiti. He had a servant's heart and was at his happiest whether it be through building churches, mission trips, mentoring young people or greeting people as they came to church.

He was a loving husband and father who spent time with his wife and children on trips, teaching their children many skills such as carpentry, vehicle upkeep, how to drive and many other life skills. Being a committed Christian, he taught them the moral values that stay with them today.

Spending time with his grand and great-grandchildren was the joy of his life until his last breath. After his retirement, he and his wife traveled extensively until the disease of Alzheimer's altered his desired path.

Survivors include his loving wife, Esther; son, Jeffery Lancaster (Chris); daughters, Elizabeth Foy (Stan) and Leslie Boyett (Gary); sister, Judy Moeller (Ron); brothers-in-law, Richard Wohlford (Carol) and Dan Zile (Sharon); stepsisters-in-law: Kaye Hoch (Larry), Norma Carroll and Glenna Singer; grandchildren: Mike Foy, Heather Roe (Dustin), Logan Foy, Jacob Boyett (Mary Beth), Joshua Boyett, Stephanie Ivey (Joe), Taylor Lancaster, Danny Pettus (Brittney) and Summer Thompson as well as 10 great-grandchildren.

Lancaster, father-in-law, Keith Wohlford; mother-in-law, Opal Wohlford; sisters, Susan Urschel (Junior) and Beth Zile; sisters-in-law: Marge Coble (Larry) and Shirley Manson; and stepbrothers-in-law, Dale Carroll and Earl Singer.
