Sara Martindale Billingsley, 86, of Huntsville passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Thursday, September 26, 2024. Her career included being a devoted wife, elementary school teacher, beloved grandmother, and an amazing homemaker. She touched the lives of many through her dedication to education and her genuine love of service in her church and home.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Gale and Harvey Martindale of Mississippi, her sister, Peggy Coleman (Bill) of Arkansas, and her brother, James Harvey Martindale (Sandra) of Mississippi.

She is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, William Billingsley of Huntsville, AL, their daughter, Stacy Baldwin, and her husband Jeff, of Millbrook, AL, and her son, William Billingsley Jr. and his wife Linda, of New Market, AL.; her grandchildren, Hudson Baldwin and his wife Stacia (Knoxville, TN), Stephanie Baldwin (Huntsville, AL), Katherine Baldwin (Millbrook, AL), Ally Billingsley (Denver, CO), Nikki Billingsley (Denver, Co), and Jenna Billingsley (Atlanta, GA). She is also survived by her sister, Janie Coombs (Jimmy) of Ripley, MS, and her brother, Mickey Martindale (Beverly) of Courtland, MS, and her sister-in-law, Sandra Martindale of Courtland, MS.

Her grandchildren cherished their time with their grandmother, who always had a warm smile and words of encouragement. Some of her grandchildren's favorite memories include Grandma taking them on picnics and walks through the woods on Green Mountain, trips to the Botanical Gardens, and birdwatching in her beautiful backyard. These moments were filled with laughter, stories from the past, and often a few life lessons sprinkled in. A special gift Sara made for her grandchildren were cookbooks filled with her recipes along with handmade aprons which she carefully designed for each. Sara was thankful for her family and often remarked that she had a good life and was looking forward to one day going home to be with Jesus.

Visitation will be from 1:00-3:00 pm at BerryHill Funeral Home on Sunday - September 29, 2024, where family and friends will gather to honor her memory and celebrate her life. Her faith and commitment to the community will be remembered by all who knew her.
